Frequently Asked Questions
About Prerequisites
Do I need previous facilitation experience?
No previous facilitation experience is required. While many participants come with some experience leading men’s groups or circles, the only true prerequisite is a commitment to your own growth and a desire to support other men.
Do I need to be part of MKP or another men’s organisation?
No. The Facilitation Dojo welcomes men from all backgrounds and traditions. Whether you’re part of an established men’s organisation or just beginning your journey in men’s work, you’ll find valuable tools and practices here.
About the Training
How is the Dojo different from GUTS training?
While GUTS training focuses on facilitating specific processes for weekend events, the Facilitation Dojo teaches core facilitation principles that can be applied in any context. We focus on the “how” of facilitation rather than the “what,” equipping you with skills that work in weekly men’s groups, workshops, or any setting where men gather for growth.
What makes this different from other facilitation trainings?
The Dojo is unique in several ways:
- Highly experiential with extensive hands-on practice
- Focus on principles and patterns rather than rigid protocols
- Small group size (maximum 12 men) ensuring personal attention
- Emphasis on both practical skills and personal development
- Integration of multiple approaches and methodologies
How much of the training is theoretical vs. practical?
The majority of your time will be spent in hands-on practice. While we do cover important concepts and frameworks, these are always followed by immediate application through demonstrations and exercises in small groups.
About the Experience
What does a typical day look like?
Each day includes a mix of:
- Teaching of core concepts and frameworks
- Live demonstrations of facilitation techniques
- Small group practice sessions
- Feedback and integration discussions
- Personal reflection time
How challenging is the work?
The training is designed to stretch you while maintaining safety. You’ll be challenged to step out of your comfort zone, but always with support and at your own pace. The focus is on growth through practice rather than pressure or intensity.
What support is available during and after the training?
During the training, you’ll receive ongoing support from the trainer and fellow participants. Afterwards, you’ll have:
- A comprehensive handbook for reference
- Connection to a community of fellow facilitators
- Access to follow-up resources and support
